EMDR - Training & Consultation

EMDR is a specialized clinical approach that requires formal, supervised training for client safety and for maximum treatment effect. On this page you can find information about EMDR-related training opportunities for mental health professionals, and consultation for therapists using EMDR.

Training

Safe and effective use of EMDR requires formal, supervised training on a par with a full-length graduate level clinical skills course. We strongly recommend that therapists only consider obtaining training from sources approved by the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA). Approved instructors/training programs are listed on the EMDRIA web page.

The Child Trauma Institute is a leader in providing high quality EMDR Training Programs. Dr. Ricky Greenwald, the Founder and Executive Director of the Child Trauma Institute, was the first Independent Instructor to be approved by EMDRIA, in 1996. Dr. Greenwald has published three papers on innovative approaches to EMDR Training, and his training model has served as a trend-setter internationally.

Note: EMDR training is open to mental health professionals licensed (or certified or registered) for independent practice. The training is also open to advanced graduate students, interns, and other mental health professionals on a licensure track, with a letter of support from their supervisor. Consultation

Dr. Greenwald and Judy Greenberg are EMDRIA-approved Consultants, and provide individual and group consultation to EMDR-trained therapists working towards Certification. We also provide consultation-of-consultation to those working towards Consultant status.
