MISSION

The mission of Child Trauma Institute, Inc. (CTI) is to promote the healing and healthy development of children, adolescents, and adults who have experienced trauma or loss; to develop, evaluate, and disseminate effective prevention, assessment and treatment methods.

HISTORY & ACTIVITIES

Dr. Ricky Greenwald founded CTI in 2002 in order to more effectively disseminate high quality training programs in trauma treatment. CTI became a Massachusetts not-for-profit corporation in 2005, and was granted federal non-profit (501c3) status as a charitable organization in 2006.

CTI provides training, consultation, information, and resources for those who work with trauma-exposed children, adolescents, and adults. CTI also conducts research on trauma assessment and treatment, and on its own training programs. CTI provides this web site as a resource for clinicians, researchers, and parents. The site continues to add content, is linked by many sites, has received various awards (that we choose not to list), and currently averages over 40,000 hits per month.

CTI has conducted/collaborated on research in the following countries: Australia, Bosnia, Canada, Germany, Guatemala, Iran, Israel, Netherlands, N. Ireland, Scotland, Sri Lanka, Trinidad & Tobago, and USA.

CTI has provided training in the following countries: Canada, England, Germany, Guatemala, Israel, Mexico, Netherlands, Nicaragua, N. Ireland, Trinidad & Tobago, Turkey, and USA. The following are among those who have contracted with CTI for training or consultation services:

Major training/treatment projects are planned or underway in San Diego, CA, Buffalo, NY, Israel, and Trinidad & Tobago.

AFFILIATIONS

American International College (AIC) School of Psychology and Education - AIC is a leading provider of education and training for educators and mental health professionals in Western MA. AIC accredits CTI's major training programs for graduate academic credit.

EMDR International Association (EMDRIA) - EMDRIA is an independent professional association dedicated to promoting the responsible dissemination and development of EMDR in the USA and worldwide. EMDRIA accredits CTI's EMDR basic training program and accredits many of our other programs (for mental health professionals) for EMDRIA Continuing Education (CE) credits.

Haworth Press - Publisher of several of Dr. Greenwald's books, Haworth supports CTI by donating books for CTI's Israel Project, and by publicizing CTI's work via many of Haworth's professional peer-reviewed journals.

Institute on Violence, Abuse, and Trauma (IVAT) - IVAT is active in developing, evaluating, and disseminating trauma-related prevention, assessment, and treatment methods. CTI collaborates with IVAT on many activities and projects, including conferences and credentialing for trauma therapists.

Massachusetts Children's Trust Fund (MCTF) - MCTF is the umbrella organization for the various Healthy Families programs throughout Massachusetts, and also provides advocacy and training in support of child abuse prevention. CTI provides pro-bono training and support to MCTF staff, who can then offer selected CTI programs in-house and elsewhere.

University at Buffalo (part of the State University of New York system) School of Social Work, Continuing Education - Collaborating on providing CTI's Certificate Program in child & adolescent trauma treatment. Dr. Greenwald is also an Affiliate Research Associate Professor with the UB School of Social Work.
